Cup of Chisme: You’ve Never Had a Picnic Here
I guarantee that you’ve never had a picnic here. You’ve probably seen it driving by – or if you’re like me practiced your parallel parking at some point in this often-overlooked parking lot. But overall, it’s not a space most people know about. Still, it has been in the news as of late, so here’s what’s going on.
Alva Gagner
Alva Gagner of Cottage Grove, Ore. passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family. Alva was born in The Dalles, Ore. to Roy and Vivian (Martin) Nichols. She had six siblings, Melvin Nichols, Janet Beck, Clare Knutson, Percy Nichols, Robert Nichols, and Susan Nichols.

Alva Gagner passed away on March 11, 2023. Alva Gagner of Cottage Grove, Oregon passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family. Alva was born in The Dalles, Oregon to Roy and Vivian (Martin) Nichols. She had six siblings, Melvin Nichols, Janet Beck, Clare Knutson, Percy Nichols, Robert Nichols, and Susan Nichols. She married Clyde Gagner in 1967 and lived in Cottage Grove for 60 years. She was a member of the Cottage Grove Kingdom Hall, and a faithful Jehovah’s witness. She was a homemaker, loved family picnics, reading Louis L’Amour, watching old western movies, sewing, baking, enjoyed flowers, gardening, and loved camping, hunting with her boys, listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash as well as the king of rock n’ roll, Elvis. Alva is survived by her children; Aaron and Kathy Gagner, Ivan and Gioia Gagner of Cottage Grove, Terri Nichols, Michael and Marilyn Nichols of, Salem, Lucinda and Wesley Brooks, of Gilbert, AZ, Melody and Scott Delorme, of Eugene, and Vivian Gagner of Cottage Grove, Tommy Gagner, of Salem, Roy Lewis and Brittney Gagner of Roseburg, 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde and son Nolan Nichols. A funeral service was held March 18, 2023. Arrangements are in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
E. Carry Keeton
E. Carry Keeton, 33, of Wooster, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023. Carry was born on November 24, 1989, in Wooster, Ohio, to Loren and Mary E. (Moore) Keeton. She loved bowling, dancing, going to church, playing dominos, fireworks, getting her fingernails painted, and talking on the phone with her siblings. Carry also loved to spend time with her dad. She was a very sociable person and enjoyed being friends with her house mates at the group home that she lived in. Carry also liked to ride the golf cart in the back yard as well as hang out in the back yard, swimming in the pool, and going on picnics. Her foster mom, Diane Holmes, was a very special person in her life.
