KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — MEDIC Regional Blood Center will celebrate its 65th anniversary starting Saturday, March 25 through the remainder of 2023. MEDIC was founded in 1958 by Dr. Carl Nelson with sponsorship from the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. The nonprofit was founded as an independent blood center to provide products to area hospitals. Sixty-five years later, MEDIC serves 24 hospitals in 22 counties across East Tennessee.

Teen rescued after 150 foot fall down hillside in Auburn
On March 22, VRFA crews, with assistance from Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, South King Fire & Rescue, and King County Medic One, conducted a rope rescue near the 2800 block of Elm Street SE. A teenager slid approximately 150 feet down an embankment and appeared to have minor injuries. Crews stabilized the patient and brought him up the embankment in a Stokes basket using an intricate rope system. Aid 331 transported the patient to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
