Update: No one was hit by gunfire, said Sgt. Thomas Blake, a Syracuse police spokesperson. One bullet hole was seen in the tailgate of a Jeep Compass, he said.
Police are continuing to investigate.
Syracuse, N.Y. - An SUV crashed into the back of a box truck on the North Side Thursday afternoon as people fired shots from an SUV, according to a witness.
Around 2:13 p.m., Onondaga County 911 dispatchers told police American Medical Response reported shots had been fired in a possible drive-by at Lodi Street and Union Place.
Nearby a dark-colored SUV smashed into the back end of a Syracuse City School District school meals truck near the intersection of North Salina and Kirkpatrick streets.
Syracuse police and firefighters as well as AMR crews were on the scene.
Police told dispatch they found at least one bullet hole. It was unclear if it was in the box truck or the SUV.
A witness told Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard that people were shooting from the SUV when it crashed into the back of the truck. The witness said two people got out and ran from the SUV after it crashed.
Police told dispatchers two people ran south on North Salina Street.
