Boston JetBlue flight bound for San Francisco spends night in Syracuse
A transcontinental JetBlue flight that left Boston, Massachusetts, on late Monday night for San Francisco was forced to divert to Syracuse, New York, amid engine problems reported by the crew. A statement from the FAA says JetBlue Flight 33 landed safely at Syracuse Hancock International Airport around 11:15 p.m. on Monday after the crew reported engine problems. Online flight records showed the Airbus A321neo airplane departed Boston more than four hours later than its scheduled departure time. Less than an hour into the more than six-hour flight across the country, the flight crew discovered the problem and landed at the Syracuse airport in Central New York a short time later. A spokesperson for Syracuse's Hancock International Airport said there was a problem with the right engine of the airplane. It landed safely after circling the airport for a short time. There were 108 passengers on the flight, according to Syracuse ABC affiliate WSYR. Online flight records show a new plane was flown to Syracuse from New York's JFK airport about eight hours later. The replacement plane departed Syracuse just before 10 a.m. Tuesday and landed in San Francisco just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to online flight records. WCVB has reached out to JetBlue for comment but has not yet heard back.
