Syracuse, N.Y. — A 44-year-old man shot in the chest on Memorial Day has died, police said.
Three other people were injured in the same shooting reported at 9:47 p.m. in the 400 block of Bellevue Avenue in Syracuse.
The man who died, Demond Jones, had been shot in the chest, said Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Police Department.
Jones was taken by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital where he died, Malinowski said.
Police also responded to two hospitals just after 9:45 p.m. Monday after reports of multiple people shot, according to police dispatches.
Three other people were injured the same shooting but arrived at local hospitals in private vehicles, Malinowski said.
A 34-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman both arrived at Upstate University Hospital around the same time police arrived at Bellevue Avenue, Malinowski said. The man suffered a graze wound to the head and the woman had a gunshot wound to the leg.
Another 44-year-old man arrived at Upstate Community Hospital around the same time. He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
Those three victims are expected to survive, police said.
Multiple shell casings were found at the scene and a vehicle was hit by gunfire, Malinowski said.
