With their 19-13 win over Cornell, The Syracuse Women’s Lacrosse team continues their picture perfect, undefeated season—and the younger players in this area are watching in awe.
That’s pretty cool,” said Elena Cole, one of the members of the Valley Lacrosse Program who got the chance to scrimmage with her team on the field during halftime.
“They’re really good,” added Natalie Spinner, Elena’s teammate.
Along with their entire team, both Cole and Spinner got to watch the game from the sidelines—soaking in the college players and all of their glory.
“We’re so lucky here that we have this SU program that is so good,” said Walt Eccles, who runs the Valley Lacrosse Program, a youth lacrosse program aimed at helping players of all levels develop their craft. “To have it right in your backyard...you can come up here and see it and aspire to it...it’s just really a special thing.”
Coach Orlindella, who leads the Fayetteville Manlius JV program, also saw how special the opportunity was—which is why she took her whole team to watch.
“I think it’s just awesome to see the female role models that they are just on and off the field,” said Coach Orlindella. “For these girls who are still learning the game and understanding it, [it’s great] for them to come and witness what they can potentially be.”
“Everything that we’re trying to do is what they are doing and accomplishing,” said Jordan Hearn, one of Coach Orlindella’s players. “It’s nice to watch it actually happen.”
Up next, the Syracuse team will take on Virginia this Saturday inside the JMA Wireless Dome, hoping to stay unbeaten. The game will be broadcasted on the ACC Network Extra.
