Syracuse senior Delaney Sweitzer is this week’s ACC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, while junior Emma Ward is the league’s Offensive Player of the Week the conference announced on Tuesday, March 28. It marks the second time this season the Orange have swept the weekly ACC awards.
Sweitzer earns the accolade for the third consecutive week and fourth time this season. She made a combined 14 saves in victories against No. 6 Stony Brook and Louisville. Sweitzer stopped eight shots against the Seawolves. Sweitzer made six saves in just more than 40 minutes of action against Louisville, helping Syracuse to its 11th straight win.
Ward tied her career high with seven assists and finished with a team-best eight points against Stony Brook. Her seven assists tie for second on Syracuse’s single-game record list. Five of her assists came during the Orange’s 8-1 scoring run that erased a one-goal deficit and gave Syracuse its largest lead at 16-9. She had two points in the first half against Louisville as the Orange built a 10-2 halftime lead and went on to a 17-5 victory.
