Cakes, cookies, cupcakes and more will be available for sampling Thursday at the first-ever Syracuse Bakers Expo in downtown Syracuse.

The expo, to be held 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Marriott Syracuse Downton hotel, is meant to showcase the efforts of 22 Onondaga County baked goods and desserts businesses. The event in the hotel’s Grand Ballroom is coordinated by local bakery Trita Treatz and the Jubilee Homes of Syracuse, a nonproft that provides housing for low income people.

Each of the vendors will “set up displays that emphasize creativity and design, texture and taste, and product packaging,” according to the sponsors.

Guests can sample desserts at each vendor’s station and will be able to vote for their favorites. Vendors can win cash prizes and recognition from their peers, according to the organizers, who include Sherita Semple of Trita Treatz and Syracuse Common Councilor Rita Paniagua. Online voting through the month of March will determine the “Baker of the Year” with a prize of $1,000.

Entertainment will be provided by Syracuse City School Jazz Ensemble. There will also be dessert wines, champagne and coffee/tea-tasting booths.

Vendors include Dea’s Cakes & Crafts, Soli’s Sweets, Pawsitivitea CNY, LOolin Sweets and more. See full vendor list.

Tickets for the Bakers Expo are $25 per person and can be purchased online prior to the event. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Interfaith Works food Pantries programs and Jubilee Homes Youth Culinary Arts program.

Semple, of Trita Treatz, will also display some of her own creations at the expo.

“I came up with the Baker’s Expo because I wanted to showcase the baking world,” Semple said in a media release. “There are so many bakers out there that we just don’t know about. ... Bakers put so much time into making these beautiful desserts, that they deserve to be showcased. So many bakeries have closed down during covid, and due to inflation. I feel like the Syracuse Bakers Expo is exactly what we need.”
