Are you on Medicaid? Here’s what to do to make sure you don’t lose health care coverage

An ad by the NY State of Health alerting Medicaid enrollees they must renew their health insurance plans in coming months.

Syracuse, N.Y. — The government will resume checking the eligibility of all people enrolled in Medicaid over the next 14 months.

Here are steps Medicaid enrollees can take to avoid losing coverage:

  • Update your contact information with your Medicaid agency. If you have moved, contact your Medicaid agency to make sure it has your correct address, phone number and email address. If you got your Medicaid coverage through the state insurance exchange, known as the New York State of Health, call the exchange at 1-855-355-5777. People enrolled through the Onondaga County Department of Social Services should call that office at (315) 435-2928 to update their contact information.
  • Respond promptly when you receive a Medicaid renewal notice in the mail. The state or county may ask you for documentation verifying your income level. If you ignore the notice, you could be disenrolled from Medicaid.
  • If you are no longer eligible for Medicaid, contact the New York State of Health at 1-855-355-5777 to find out what other health insurance options are available through the state health insurance exchange.
  • People with questions about the Medicaid renewal process or alternate insurance options can also call ACR Health in Syracuse for help at (315) 475-2430. You can also get help from assistors and brokers certified to provide application and enrollment assistance. A complete list of assistors and brokers by county is available on the New York State of Health website.
  • If you live outside of New York, visit this website to get contact information for your state’s Medicaid office.
