[WATCH] Sylacauga City Council holds first June meeting

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council held its meeting Tuesday night, June 6, at 6:00 p.m. with a work session prior at 5:00 p.m.

At the meeting, the council approved the change order for Sylacauga drainage improvements along E Clay St. and S Church Ave., S Norton Ave. and W Walnut St., and E 1st St. and Calhoun Ave totaling $12,809.83.

Approval was also given for the Alabama Workforce Ready Transport agreement between the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement (SAFE) and the city of Sylacauga in the amount of $40,000.

The city council approved a renewal of the lease for the property located at 317 W 3rd St. as well.

They approved funding for lighting replacement and repairs for Street, Shop, and Animal Shelter in the amount of $13,207.72.

Additionally, they approved the reimbursement for Municipal Court costs in the amount of $221.

The city council approved the replacement of tools and equipment totaling $15,000 for the Sylacauga City Shop which is a reimbursement related to the fire damage that occurred on Sept. 1, 2022.

Acceptance was granted for the resignation of Tom Bass from the Industrial Development Board along with the authorization to post the new vacancy.

The council approved travel and training expenses for FD Lt. Kyle Moseley to attend the Alabama Fire College Regional Training Center Wilderness I/II course hosted by the Opelika Regional Training Center, Oct. 30, 2023 – Nov. 3, 2023. Registration fee of $350; additional expenses for meals and use of a city-provided vehicle will be incurred. Total estimated expenses for Moseley are $425.

Also at the meeting, Mayor Jim Heigl proclaimed that next Wednesday, June 14, will be Lucille Anderson Day. Anderson passed away on May 4 of this year, and June 14 is her birthday.

The next meeting of the Sylacauga City Council will take place on Tuesday, June 20, at 6:00 p.m.
