Sutherlin High School students will have an improved Career and Technical Education facility on campus this coming fall.
A brand new, 6,000 square foot facility is being built on the site the old CTE building on campus.
The new building, which is being funded by a state grant program, will roughly double the size of the previous facility.
“If anybody had ever been in there at the busy times, it was packed rafter to rafter side the side," says Agriculture Science and Technology teacher Wes Crawford. "This will definitely be way more space, a safer space too, in terms of being able to move around in and in terms of air flow and a better place to work.”
The new facility is coming to the school, in part, due to a groundswell of support for improved facilities by the Sutherlin community.
“Meeting with community members they told us that this program is what they want to see some emphasis on, and they want to see us producing students who can walk into the world of work," says Superintendent Terry Prestianni.
The space is set to be completed in the fall, but probably will not be fully finished by the start of the school year.
The plan at the beginning of the school year will be for CTE students to help design the layout of the interior space.
