Rosie The Riveter At The Bong Center In Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. — The Bong Center played host this weekend to Rosie the Riveter, the woman from World War II who represented female workers of that era.

The group Border Town Betties were on hand to talk with visitors about the role that Rosie played in the 1940’s and the role she continues to have empowering women Saturday.

“Rosie was really the start of women’s empowerment during WWII. All the men went away to war and women were back home doing all the jobs that were traditionally jobs for the men. So that’s kind of a strong sense of female empowerment and it’s a great story to tell, especially to our younger generation,” said Becky Scherf, President of Border Town Betties.

At the event, there were presentations explaining how women broke out of the mold society created for them before the war. The gift shop had special Rosie merchandise available for purchase.
