18 Sun Prairie wrestlers earn academic all-state

Accolades continue to pour in for the 2023-24 Sun Prairie United wrestling program. The athletes certainly put in the work on the mat as Sun Prairie won both the regular season and tournament championships for the Big Eight conference, won a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) team regional, and sent five individuals to the 2024 state meet.

Perhaps even more impressive was their ability to balance this success in wrestling with success in the classroom. Sun Prairie covered the 2024 Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association (WWCA) academic all-state team. Criteria for the honor was a non-weighted 3.5 cumulative grade point average. 18 United wrestlers met or exceeded this requirement.

Headlining Sun Prairie's group was a pair of first team selections, senior Sophia Bassino and freshman Jack Ireland. Ireland was just the beginning of an overflow of freshman who achieved this honor. Classmates Lou Swingen, Liam Scanlan, Colton Rockwell, Niko DeZiel, Josiah Benjamin, Seldon Johnson, Abdouarim Kolly, Charlie Ledden, Romeo Jansen, Jeremiah Titialii, Hannah Wojtysiak, and Calli Stewart all earned honorable mention honors.

As for the upperclassmen, Sun Prairie added a pair of second team academic all-state selections in senior Parker Olson and junior Jaxon Johnson. Seniors Isaiah Horan and Christopher Anderson also earned honorable mention honors.

All 18 wrestlers mentions were also first team academic all-conference selections in the Big Eight.
