QUEEN CREEK, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) — A new zip code is coming to cover the ever expanding communities of Queen Creek and San Tan Valley. According to the Town of Queen Creek, the newly created 85144 zip code will comprise the area south of Empire Boulevard, west of Gary Road and north of Arizona Farms Road. About 280 homes and businesses are already within the zip code’s boundaries, including the Goldmine Estates subdivision, Earnhardt Queen Creek and U-Haul Moving & Storage. The new ZIP code will take effect on July 1.

Maricopa County has new tool to help prevent deed fraud

CASA GRANDE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -- Firefighters in Casa Grande received concerning test results when nearly half of a hazmat team tested for elevated levels of arsenic during their annual heavy metal testing. None of the seven firefighters knew they had high levels of the naturally occurring chemical that can cause cancer. Six of the seven are stationed at the same firehouse in Casa Grande. “That was our immediate concern that something in the station was doing this,” said Casa Grande Fire Department Chief Dave Kean.

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5/AP) — Gov. Katie Hobbs announced on Thursday a new report regarding Phoenix’s groundwater situation and new restrictions that will impact new construction in the Valley. The study, Phoenix Active Management Area Groundwater Model, revealed that about 4% or nearly 5 million acre-feet of the groundwater demand needed for the Valley would not be met if nothing is done. So, as required by law, Hobbs said the state is pausing new construction in the Phoenix area that relies on groundwater. She also announced a $40 million investment to help with water conservation.

On Thursday, Tempe Mayor Corey Woods, firefighters and employees from Tempe St. Luke’s Hospital gave Riley Flippo the citizen’s award for his life-saving actions. “Thanks to Riley’s swift efforts, the girl was breathing again when TFR (Tempe Fire and Rescue) arrived.
