COMO — The Como-Pickton Eagles snapped their four-game losing streak last Wednesday following a 6-0 shut out victory over the Sulphur Bluff Bears. After an early run, a fifth inning offensive rally would give the Eagles the edge needed to put the game away, leading to the win.

The Bears stepped up to the plate first, facing Tucker LeCroy on the mound. The game began with a strikeout and a ground out. After the next two batters were hit by pitches, another strikeout ended the Bears’ turn.

The Eagle stepped up to the plate next. Their turn started with LeCroy hitting a pop fly ball for an out. Two runners were then gained when Kevin Hernandez hit a single, and Kobie Wright walked.

Later on, Hernadez scored on a passed ball, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Two more outs followed when Dane Oud hit a fly ball for an out, and Sean Carpenter grounded out, ending the first inning.

The Bears were retired in order to start the second inning following a ground out and a pair of strikeouts.

The bottom of the second inning started with Payton Hunt being walked. An out would occur soon after when Hunt was caught stealing second base.

After two runners were gained when Jakob Kempenaar walked and Adrian Chambly hit a single, the inning ended after both Cade Childress and LeCroy hit fly balls for outs, as the Eagles maintained their 1-0 lead.

The third inning kicked off with a single. After that, three consecutive outs followed on a pair of strikeouts and a ground out, ending the Bears’ turn.

The Eagles went down in order during the bottom of the third inning, as Hernandez hit a fly ball for an out, Wright was thrown out on a dropped third strike, and Oud grounded out, ending the third inning, with the Eagles still leading 1-0.

The Bears were once again retired in order to start the fourth inning, following a ground out and two strikeouts.

The bottom of the fourth inning began with Carpenter being walked. Two outs followed when Hunt grounded out and Kempenaar struck out. Though another runner was gained when Chambly hit a single, the inning ended when Carpenter was picked off at third base, as the Eagles still maintained a 1-0 lead.

The Bears were retired in order again to begin the fifth inning following a ground out and two strikeouts.

The bottom of the fifth started with Childress hitting a fly ball for an out. After LeCroy walked, and eventually advanced to third base, Hernandez brought LeCroy home with a sacrifice RBI, extending the Eagles’ lead to 2-0.

After both Wright and Oud walked, Carpenter brought both of them home with an RBI double, bringing the score to 4-0. On the next at-bat, Hunt hit an RBI single, bringing Carpenter home and extending the Eagles’ lead to 5-0.

Kempenaar would then reach base on an error. This was followed by Chambly hitting an RBI single, driving Hunt home and making the score 6-0. After Childress was hit by a pitch, the inning ended when LeCroy hit a fly ball for an out.

For the sixth inning, Oud relieved LeCroy on the mound. The Bears would once again go down in order following a ground out and a pair of strikeouts. The Eagles were likewise retired in order during the bottom of the sixth inning after Hernandez struck out, Wright hit a fly ball for an out, and Oud grounded out.
