SS clinches sixth straight district title

TEXARKANA — The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats locked up their sixth consecutive district championship Friday following a 10-0 shut out against the Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks. For the entire game, the Lady Wildcats outplayed the Lady Hawks at every opportunity, cruising to a victory.

The first inning saw the Lady Wildcats immediately take control with a pair of runs. Brailie Blevins and Bayler Boatman both scored, as the Lady Wildcats established a 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Lady Wildcats continued to assert their dominance with a trio of runs. Nicole Higgins, Blevins, and Boatman all scored, as the Lady Wildcats extended their lead to 5-0.

After a scoreless third inning, the Lady Wildcats scored again in the fourth inning. Blevins scored her third run of the game, as the Lady Wildcats’ lead now stood at 6-0. Another run by Higgins in the fifth inning brought the score to 7-0.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Wildcats added on three more runs. Emerson Thompson, Emily Adamson, and KK Montgomery all scored, as the score climbed to 10-0. After the Lady Hawks were held scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning, the game was over, as the Lady Wildcats capped off a shutout win and clinched the district championship for District 15-4A.

As a team, the Lady Wildcats batted 14 for 32 (.438) from the plate. Claire Thompson led the way, going a perfect 4/4.

Not far behind were Boatman and Hannah Speed with three hits each. Abbey Goldsmith, Higgins, Montgomery, and Reese Ragan all tallied one hit each.

Blevins finished as the leading scorer with three runs. Higgins added two runs, while Adamson, Higgins, Montgomery, and Emerson Thompson all contributed one run a piece.

Speed pitched a shut out in the circle. Across six innings, she struck out 13 batters, and conceded only three walks and one hit.

With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 9-0 in district and 17-7-2 overall. They resumed action Tuesday, welcoming the Liberty-Eylau Lady Leopards to Ladycat Park for their senior night game.
