Hopkins County Genealogical Society March 2023 Meeting

The next Hopkins County Genealogical Society 2023 Monthly Meeting will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023.

Thursday March 16, 2023, 7:00 p.m., at HCGS Library, 611 North Davis St., Sulphur Springs, Tx.  Our speaker will be Kenny Sivard and his topic will be “The History of Fort Towson.”   

He will talk about how Sam Houston and Davy Crockett both went there before coming to Texas.  He will also talk about the fort being a staging area for the Mexican American War.

Kenneth Sivard is a seventh-generation resident of McCurtain County, Oklahoma. Currently he is the president of the McCurtain County Historical Society and serves on the board of directors of the Oklahoma Historical Society where he sits on the organization’s Research and Publications Committees. He also serves on the executive board of the Friends of Fort Towson Historic Site and the board of directors of the Friends of Honey Springs Historic Battlefield.

We are excited to have Kenny speak to us in person!  However, if you are unable to attend due to travel distance or for whatever reason, we invite you to attend via Zoom.
