Police Investigating Possible Abduction Attempt On South Mansion

The Sullivan Police Department is seeking public assistance following a possible abduction attempt on Wednesday, May 24, between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the 300 block of South Mansion.

According to Sullivan Police Lt. Jeffrey Rohrer, police were informed May 25 of a Facebook message from a Sullivan resident that had been posted a day earlier.

The resident messaged police that a male subject in a gray-colored passenger vehicle asked her young child and his friend if they wanted a ride.

The children were believed to be playing outside in the front yard of their residence between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p,.m.

The incident occurred two blocks from the Harney Mansion, which is located at 332 South Mansion Street

The resident of the home with the children involved did not call police about the incident, due to being unable to provide much information.

Rohrer reported that at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, a Sullivan Police detective was able to locate the residence where this incident is alleged to have occurred and spoke with the parents and children to attempt to gain more information on the male subject and vehicle he was operating.

The detective spoke with the children, who stated that the male subject was older, with a short gray beard, wearing a necklace in a gray or copper colored four-door passenger vehicle with a long trunk.

“We ask that our citizens please report any suspicious activity as it is occurring, regardless the level of detail, at the time the incident occurs,” said Lt. Rorher.

The incident remains under investigation by Sullivan Police Department and anyone with any additional information or may have observed the suspect vehicle in the area to contact Sullivan Police at 573-468-8001.
