A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, June 6, around 3:30 p.m. in the hamlet of Riverside, leaving one man dead. Southampton Town Police swiftly responded to a distress call reporting a stabbing on Nugent Drive, west of Woodhull Avenue.
 
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed by authorities, was rushed to Peconic Bay Medical Center. Tragically, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
 
Following a thorough investigation into the matter, the Southampton Town Police took Gelber Lopez-Perez, a homeless individual, into custody. Lopez-Perez now faces a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the incident. It has been determined that the victim and the suspect were acquainted, indicating that the crime was not a random act of violence.
 
Gelber Lopez-Perez is set to appear for arraignment on Wednesday, June 7. The investigation into this heart-wrenching case continues, as authorities work to gather further details surrounding the circumstances leading to the fatal stabbing.
