Student Hit By Oncoming Vehicle After Exiting Bus

Yesterday, a 9-year-old Cherry Lane Elementary student got off his school bus at Pioneer Avenue and North Airmont Road in Suffern, where he was struck by a 2010 F550 pickup truck.

The victim was thrown and came to rest under a 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan, which had stopped in traffic. Ramapo police officers, with the assistance of bystanders, were able to lift the front end of the minivan to free the boy, who was then transported to Westchester Medical Center by WP Faist Ambulance and Rockland Paramedics. The patient is currently in critical but stable condition.

The operator of the truck, a 43-year-old Spring Valley resident, remained at the scene for questioning.

This investigation is currently ongoing.
