Ganado one win away from state tournament
HALLETTSVILLE, Texas- The Ganado Indians are now one win away from a state tournament appearance for the first time ever. They took down Flatonia in game one by a final score of five to four in eight innings.

Tom Tom Festival
The Yoakum Area Chamber of Commerce presents the 96th Annual Tom Tom Festival May 31-June 2. The tradition begins at the Community Center with the fan-favorite Miss Yoakum pageant on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. as the carnival debuts alongside the rodeo arena. The fun continues on Friday with a Kiddie Parade at 6 p.m. in downtown as the BBQ Cook-off begins with more than $8,000 awarded in prizes! Enjoy ‘Polka at the Park’ with the Shiner’s 2nd Wind band 5:30-8:30 p.m. and The Bellamy Brothers 10:30 p.m.-midnight. Do not forget about the famous ‘Lester Meier Rodeo’ held at 7:30 p.m. at the arena!
Bishop High School football players honor coach
A large contingency of former Bishop High School football players turned out to honor their coach Bill Appelt on Saturday afternoon, May 18 at his place in Hallettsville. Appelt, 88, played football at Hallettsville High School in the mid-1950’s before playing for the Texas A&M Aggies and Coach Bear Bryant. After graduation, Bill went into the coaching profession and he coached for 16 years, including the late 1960’s where he enjoyed a wealth of success at Bishop High School. Former players of the Badgers attended the event and enjoyed sharing football stories among themselves as well as with their highly-esteemed coach.

The winner of the District 30 House seat, will set the stage for a November showdown against Democrat Stephanie Bassham. The race between Louderback, a former Jackson County Sheriff, and former Victoria Mayor Jeff Bauknight has been contentious, marked by a series of heated exchanges and personal attacks.
Shiner's State Tournament begins Tuesday
SHINER, Texas- The last time Shiner Softball won a state championship was in 2016. Seven years later and none of the current seniors have competed in a state tournament. However, head coach Jason Keller says winning is not new to the Comanche program and that many of the girls were around at a young age and know what to expect when the team gets to Austin.
Hawley tops Flatonia in eight innings, 4-3, to advance to the Class 2A championship game
AUSTIN, Texas (BCH Sports) – Hawley needed an extra inning to advance to the Class 2A championship game, but they end up advancing with a 4-3 victory over Flatonia. After surrendering a 3-0 lead late in the game, Jesse Nieto delivered a single to right field with a man on base. Westyn Balch scored to give the Bearcats the victory.
Two Hallestville men arrested on Monday in Fayette County
FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas - The Fayette County Sheriff's Office arrested two Hallettsville men Monday. Roberto Luna, 39, Cody Powell, 31, are charged with multiple offenses. They were transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center. Powell is charged with evading arrest and possession of stolen property.
Lady Dogs season ends against Weimar
The Thorndale Lady Dogs softball team traveled to take on the Weimar Lady Cats in the Regional Semifinals. The Lady Dogs were swept by Weimar in the series 2-0 to bring their incredible season to an end. Game 1 took place on Wednesday, May 15, at Brenham High School. Thorndale was shut out by the Lady Cats 1-0 in a game that was a pure pitchers duel. Council amends RV ordinance
The Moulton City Council amended an ordinance from 2012 at the May 14 meeting. This ordinance is in regards to RVs and people living in RVs. “People living in RVs are prohibited in the City of Moulton,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said. “Council amended this to include a notification letter and a time period for such notifications. That was not in the original ordinance. Officials have added in the proper notification and (people) now have 30 days to vacate after the official notification.”
