Stuart Coffee Co. in downtown Stuart will permanently close next week after more than 12 years in business.

The Flagler Avenue cafe and coffeeshop's last day of business will be April 27, owner Foster Boop said Wednesday. He declined to cite the reason.

"Businesses have to make money to stay in business," Boop said. "I'll just leave it at that."

Bill Moore, who owns Kilwins in downtown Stuart, opened the coffeehouse in 2011 after waiting a decade for a space to open. Boop and his wife, Roslyn, took over in 2018. They continued to use Carmo Specialty Coffee Roaster in Melbourne.

Stuart Coffee Co. uses a variety of brewing techniques and offers a wide array of coffee and espresso specialty drinks. Its menu includes açaí bowls, smoothies, crustless homemade quiche, homemade granola and homemade baked goods, many from scratch.
