Duplex fire in Stuart displaces 8 people and a dog

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — Eight people and a dog were displaced for their duplex following a fire in Stuart.
Martin County Fire Rescue said crew responded to SE Evergreen Avenue and SE Bonita Street on Friday, March 17, at 4 p.m. in regards to a fire at a duplex.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they said they were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. However, photos from the scene show extensive damage to the property and the ground scorched from the flames.
Fire rescue said four adult, four children and a dog were displaced.
Investigators believe that the fire was believed to have started on the exterior of the building, underneath the carport, which extended into the structure.

The Red Cross was at the scene to provide assistance to those displaced.
The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
