The Stuart Police Department has an arrest warrant out for a man who sold someone a stolen vehicle from out of state.
According to Stuart Police, officers were alerted to the case on Dec. 30, 2022. A victim stated he purchased a vehicle from Christian Belliard off social media to later find that he was unable to register the vehicle due to it being a stolen car out of New York.
The victim purchased the vehicle from Belliard off social media, and Belliard delivered the car, police say. Police further state Belliard provided all the right information including the vehicle identification number and Belliard's own personal identification.
Once the victim was unable to register the vehicle, they reported the fraud, police say.
Investigators were able to run Belliard's license and the vehicle's temporary plates through a law enforcement program where investigators found the ID was falsified and the temporary plate came back as 'no record found.'
Through further investigation, police found the VIN plate had been modified and discovered that the vehicle was stolen from New York.
NYPD was contacted and a BOLO (be on the look out) was sent out locally and nationally due to the case being tied to more than one state.
Stuart Police said multiple agencies reached out about similar cases.
Belliard is now has a warrant for his arrest with the following charges: Dealing in Stolen Property, uttering forged instrument and organized fraud - less than $20,000.
