The Washington slow-pitch softball team was a perfect 5-0 and claimed the Beast of the East softball tournament in Stonewall over the weekend.

They defeated Ada (13-0), Tupelo (15-5), Caddo (14-5), Buffalo Valley (11-4) and Caddo (14-13).

It was a talented field of highly ranked teams from their respective classes.

“Those teams over there care about their slow-pitch softball,” head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “They take a lot of pride in playing slow pitch.”

Washington picked up two more wins over Harrah (6-3) and North Rock Creek (15-13) on Monday.

“We played really, really good defense at the tournament,” Lampkin said. “We only had a couple errors the whole tournament and I don’t know how many double plays we turned on the infield.”

The Warriors turned eight double plays.

“Skylar Wells is so special for us on defense,” Lampkin said. “She has really fast hands and is just a workhorse.”

Lampkin was proud of his team but was especially pleased with his junior varsity team, which also made the trip to Stonewall.

“The JV had a chance to beat a Latta team,” he explained.” They had a chance for the win and I was really proud of them.”

Washington had a yard party against North Rock Creek with home runs from Emjay Lucas (2), Tinley Lucas, Oliva Palumbo and Maggie Place (3).
