Sacramento substitute teacher remained in classroom despite years of sexual misconduct accusations | Parents are calling for justice after a substitute teacher was allowed to remain in Sacramento-area schools for years despite documented complaints of groping, getting uncomfortably close to female students and inappropriate language. In spite of the detailed documents outlining various complaints from students and teachers, Andy Rivas, the now former Sacramento City Unified School District substitute teacher, was able to fly under the radar and remain teaching children for several years. Possible shooting, crash being investigated in North Highlands, sheriff's office says | The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office is investigating gunshots being fired in connection with a crash scene in North Highlands Tuesday night off Interstate 80. Law enforcement responded to Madison Avenue and Hillsdale Boulevard where two cars were seen with damage. Read more here.
Sacramento State sexual assaults suspect returned to Sacramento County after arrest in Germany | The man accused of two sexual assaults at Sacramento State in 2022 has been returned to Sacramento County after his arrest in Germany in February, the FBI said. Nida Muhammad Nyazi, 31, is accused in two cases of sexual assault with two separate victims who were students at Sacramento State University. Investigators said the sexual assaults both happened in the fall of 2022. Read more here.
Fugitive detained after crashing car, standoff at Stockton home, San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office says | A wanted fugitive and another woman were taken into custody following a standoff situation Tuesday afternoon at a home in Stockton, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said. KCRA 3 was reporting from outside the home on the 1200 block of Carlton Avenue when a SWAT crew fired flashbangs and moved into the home. Authorities could then be seen detaining the fugitive, identified as Rudolph Delsie, 37. Read more here.
'We're going to stand up against it': Jewish leaders, community advocates denounce recent antisemitism at Sacramento City Council meetings | Religious leaders in Sacramento on Tuesday spoke out against recent antisemitic comments during city council meetings ahead of another meeting where the issue resurfaced again. Iowa apartment collapse leaves residents missing, rubble too dangerous to search | Five residents of a six-story apartment building that partially collapsed in eastern Iowa remained unaccounted for Tuesday, and authorities feared at least two of them might be stuck inside rubble that was too dangerous to search. The three other missing residents are not believed to have been in the building when it started collapsing Sunday afternoon, said state Rep. Monica Kurth. Read more here.

Meteorologist Tamara Berg says Northern California is waking up to some clouds that will eventually thin out through the morning. Temperatures will be in the mid-60s by 11 a.m., and top out in the lower 80s by 5 p.m.
