TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
The Stillwater Animal Welfare is holding dog adoption events throughout March and April to encourage the community to come out and adopt after filling to maximum capacity.

The shelter was housing twice the number of dogs as it had kennels, and some dogs were becoming at risk to be put down.
SAW held its second of four planned adoption events over the weekend and says three dogs found their forever homes. One family even drove 2 hours to come and adopt their new furry best friend.
The shelter also says adoptions have been up since its plea to the public to adopt, but there are still 50 dogs waiting to be surrendered to the shelter.
The shelter's next adoption event is Tuesday at Bluepeak in Stillwater from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
