Prep softball: McDonell takes early 4-0 lead in state semifinal

By by Leader-Telegram staff,

Due to the day’s slate of games running long, the McDonell Lady Macks’ state semifinal game versus Stevens Point Pacelli began at close to 10 p.m., almost an hour and a half later than scheduled.

At the time of print deadline Thursday evening, the Lady Macks had jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Junior catcher Morgan Wirtz started the rally with a two-RBI triple.

Another run scored on a passed ball, and they got one more on an RBI sacrifice fly by junior starting pitcher Katie Ruf.

With a win, McDonell would go on to the Division 5 state championship game at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Check out Monday’s paper for a full recap of McDonell’s state tournament action.
