STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The fourth edition of the outdoor artistic piano in Stevens Point has been installed.
People love this opportunity for public music,” said Mayor Mike Wiza in a press release. “I’ve seen people of all ages playing and many more people just listening. The Governor was just here talking about our record tourism. This piano plays a small role in that.”
The instrument was installed earlier this week near the city’s transit stage by Gruu’s on Main. This year’s design play of the city motto as the “Gateway to the Pineries.”
Mayor Wiza encourages anyone to come downtown and play the instrument or just sit and enjoy others who are. The city is also looking for volunteers to tune the piano every few weeks as well.
The piano is partially protected from weather and other elements, though Wiza notes that it will eventually become unplayable.
The donated public piano project began four years ago when a resident donated an old piano to the city. Anyone who has a piano to donate for future years is encouraged to contact the city.
