• The 5th annual Polar Bear Plunge on New Year’s Eve was planned on Dec. 31 at the millpond on Hamilton Lake in Steuben County. The plunge benefits the Hamilton Lions Club and Steuben County Crimestoppers. The millpond is located on S.R. 1, just north of the four-way stop.

Two people were arrested following a multi-hour search in Fremont on Friday. ANGOLA — The following people were booked into the Steuben County Jail after they were arrested by police on Wednesday. Formal charges are filed in court by the Steuben County Prosecutor’s Office.

CROOKED LAKE — A special night is being planned for visitors to the Steuben County Event Center to see the drive-though light display on Dec. 16. In addition to the display that covers the park's vast property on Crooked Lake, people can also stop at the Event Center and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

This week, there were three incidents in Steuben County, Indiana that require attention in the weekly safety report. A house in Orland was destroyed in a fire, resulting in the building being uninhabitable. A pursuit that started in Branch County ended with the arrest of a suspect in Steuben County. Lastly, a plane crash in Ludington, Michigan claimed the lives of an Angola couple and their two dogs.

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - Leaders with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office say an investigation into a wanted sex offender resulted in two arrests on Friday morning. Police say detectives got a citizen tip on Friday on the possible location of a wanted 43-year-old registered sex offender, Aaron Matthew Harp. Police say Harp had several outstanding felony warrants for his arrest out of Steuben County.

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A registered sex offender on the run and a woman accused of helping him hide were found Friday with the help of tips from the public. The Steuben County Sheriff’s office had asked for the public’s help last week to find 43-year-old Aaron Harp, who had “several outstanding felony warrants” including for not appearing at a court hearing on charges of failure to register as a sex or violent offender.

ANGOLA — Steuben County Commissioners are on the verge of raising camping rates at the Steuben County Campground on Crooked Lake. Final action on the new rates, which will increase about 15% overall, will be taken in the final meeting of the year for the Board of Commissioners, which is Dec. 27. Commissioners often push their second meeting of December toward the end of the month in order to tie up loose ends for the year. Otherwise, Commissioners meet the first and third Mondays of the month.
