• The 5th annual Polar Bear Plunge on New Year’s Eve was planned on Dec. 31 at the millpond on Hamilton Lake in Steuben County. The plunge benefits the Hamilton Lions Club and Steuben County Crimestoppers. The millpond is located on S.R. 1, just north of the four-way stop.
Fugitive sex-offender arrested in Steuben County after multi-hour search
Two people were arrested following a multi-hour search in Fremont on Friday. Just after 9:30 am, Steuben County Sheriff’s detectives arrived in the 700 block of West North Street in Fremont acting on a tip from the public on the possible whereabouts of 43-year-old fugitive registered sex offender Aaron Harp, who had several outstanding felony warrants for his arrest out of Steuben County.

Weekly Safety Report: House Fire, Pursuit Arrest, and Plane Crash Impact Steuben County, Indiana
This week, there were three incidents in Steuben County, Indiana that require attention in the weekly safety report. A house in Orland was destroyed in a fire, resulting in the building being uninhabitable. A pursuit that started in Branch County ended with the arrest of a suspect in Steuben County. Lastly, a plane crash in Ludington, Michigan claimed the lives of an Angola couple and their two dogs.

Tips lead to discovery of registered sex offender on the run in Fremont
STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A registered sex offender on the run and a woman accused of helping him hide were found Friday with the help of tips from the public. The Steuben County Sheriff’s office had asked for the public’s help last week to find 43-year-old Aaron Harp, who had “several outstanding felony warrants” including for not appearing at a court hearing on charges of failure to register as a sex or violent offender.
