Can I get a car titled even though it isn't drivable? | Ask the RI DMV
Q: My husband purchased a 2005 Toyota Corolla from Massachusetts in 2022. He has the original title and proof of sale from a private sale. He neither titled the car nor registered it in Rhode Island. At this point, he simply wants to title it because, if the title cannot be obtained, he doesn't want to spend the money to make the repairs. Can he get the car titled, even though it needs to be repaired and is not yet drivable (so he can't take it to the police station to get the VIN check)?
