(KNSI) – A Stearns County resident was taken to the cleaners in a computer scam involving cryptocurrency. The sheriff’s office responded to a fraud call in August after a man went to his bank for the second time to withdraw a large amount of cash. The employee told the victim they were being scammed and to call the police.

Roscoe is a small town in western Stearns County located along Highway 23 west of Richmond and east of Paynesville. Roscoe, Minnesota is a town of 102 people located in western Stearns County east of Paynesville and west of Richmond along Highway 23. Roscoe was originally known as "Frogtown" and was changed to "Zion" and was established in 1865. In 1914 the town name was changed to Roscoe.

The storm was detected on Doppler radar at 4:02 AM CDT, located 6 miles northwest of Paynesville, or 24 miles northeast of Willmar. It is moving northeast at a speed of 30 mph. The storm is accompanied by wind gusts of up to 40 mph and nickel-sized hail. The information is based on radar indications. The impact of this weather event includes the potential for gusty winds to cause damage to tree limbs and unsecured objects, as well as the possibility of minor hail damage to vegetation. The following locations will be affected: Sauk Centre, Melrose, Albany, Paynesville, Holdingford, Freeport, New Munich, Greenwald, Elrosa, Meire Grove, Lake Henry, and Roscoe. Travelers on Interstate 94 between mile markers 127 and 148 in Minnesota, as well as those on U.S. Highway 71 between mile markers 151 and 171, should exercise caution. The largest hail size recorded is 0.88 inches, with maximum wind gusts of 40 mph.

(KNSI) – Quarry Park & Nature Preserve visitors will soon have more to explore. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resouces has purchased 80 acres on the west side of the park’s Scientific Nature Area. Stearns County Parks Director Ben Anderson is happy the area will stay natural because the park is home to unique native plant communities. “We have a cactus that lives in the park and it’s a native, the prickly pear cactus. We also have a tuberculed rein orchid and a few other plant and animal species that are found within the park that are either rare endangered species of special concern. So that’s why they were highly interested in these areas, because of these rock outcrops, you don’t find them everywhere in Minnesota.”

Marian Theresa Pappenfus was born September 23, 1929 to Nickolas and Rose Bromenshenkel. Marian was born and raised in rural Stearns County, Minnesota, Southwest of Sauk Centre. Marian was the youngest of nine children born to Nick and Rose. Marian had six older brothers and two older sisters. Of these nine children, Marian was the only child Rose gave birth to in a hospital. The Bromenshenkel family farmed near Sauk Centre. The Bromenshenkel farms were modest and did not have electricity nor indoor plumbing.
