Averitt Center to host All Fired Up! sale showcasing local artists Thursday, Friday, Saturday
The All Fired Up! Spring Exhibition & Sale, which is part of a partnership between the Averitt Center for the Arts and Georgia Southern's Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art, will feature unique goods made by local artists and GSU students, including ceramics, fine arts, and jewelry. The sale will take place at the Roxie Remley Center for Fine Arts at 31 East Vine Street in Statesboro on Thursday, April 25, from 2-8pm, Friday, April 26, from 10am-8pm, and Saturday, April 27, from 10am-2pm. Artists and GSU students are encouraged to submit their artwork for sale through the online registration form. The deadline for submitting artwork is April 24, 2024. The Averitt Center for the Arts has announced that 75% of the proceeds from the sale will go back to the artist, while the remaining 25% will go towards supporting the arts education programs and classes at GSU. EGSC Bobcat Pantry receives $5,000 grant from Georgia Power Foundation
The East Georgia State College (EGSC) Bobcat Pantry recently received a $5,000 grant from the Georgia Power Foundation. The grant will be used to help stock the on-campus food pantry to benefit students at the College. Georgia Power focuses on supporting causes contributing to the well-being of the communities they serve. Rotary Club of Statesboro awards 18 Service Above Self Scholarships
At the April 24, 2024 noon meeting of The Rotary Club of Statesboro at Forest Heights Country Club, the eighteen recipients of the club’s 2024 Service Above Self Scholarships were announced. The recipients each spoke briefly about their college choices and possible career plans as well as sharing their high school service activities. Each recipient will receive a $1000 scholarship. Statesboro Varsity Tennis gets True Blue send off
Statesboro High School held their third “True Blue” Spirit Walk of the year today to send off the Blue Devil Tennis Teams. They both will be traveling to Union Grove for the second round of the state playoffs. Student Matthew Jackson sang the National Anthem as the color guard presented the plays while the marching Blue Devil band played the fight song. Anna Washington and girls varsity coach Brian Hall spoke on behalf of the girls team and Davis Hill and boys varsity coach Iesha Baldwin spoke for the boys team. Board of Education begins FY '25 budget discussions
The Bulloch County Board of Education will discuss its proposed Fiscal Year 2025 budget during its April 25 and May 9 meetings. Based on a timeline presented to the Board on April 11, by Alison Boatright, the school district's chief financial officer, Superintendent of Schools Charles Wilson is scheduled to request that the Board tentatively approve the budget on May 9, and request a final adoption of the budget on June 6.
