"A Taste of Struggle": Foodways and Folkways of a Formerly Enslaved People to take place at Willow Hill on Saturday
The Willow Hill Heritage and Renaissance Center proudly announces its celebration of the 150th anniversary of the historic Willow Hill School. On April 27th, the museum will host "A Taste of Struggle," an event offering a deep dive into the culinary traditions of the Willow Hill Community. Food historians, including the renowned Pitmaster John “Bobbie” Robinson, will prepare authentic meals showcasing techniques from the era of slavery. 2Chainz to perform at Hanner Friday night
The Georgia Southern University Office of Student Activities is bringing the True Blue Experience spring concert back this Friday, April 26, with a performance by rapper 2Chainz. The concert will take place at Hanner Fieldhouse on the Statesboro Campus at 7pm, with doors opening at 6:30pm. DJ Nino will provide pre-show music. Tickets are on sale now. Tickets for students are $10 each (maximum of 2, must purchase with EagleID), and tickets for community members/alumni are $35 each (maximum of 2). All tickets are general admission, and all guests must have a government issued photo ID with a valid ticket to enter Hanner Fieldhouse. Students should also bring their EagleID. There are no exceptions to these ID requirements. Ticket sales will end Friday, April 26, at noon. No tickets will be sold at the door. The Office of Student Activities is the only verified ticket seller, and tickets not purchased off the OSA website cannot be verified and may not grant you access to Hanner Fieldhouse. All tickets will be scanned, and duplicate tickets will not be accepted. Georgia Southern's clear bag policy will apply for the concert. Statesboro-Bulloch Library to host author meet and greet event Saturday afternoon
Join the Statesboro-Bulloch Library for an an Author Meet and Greet Saturday, April 27, from 1-4pm. The event is free to the public. This is the second annual Author Meet and Greet, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Caroline Johnson, Library Manager, shares that she plans to have this event every year. Averitt Center to host All Fired Up! sale showcasing local artists Thursday, Friday, Saturday
The All Fired Up! Spring Exhibition & Sale, which is part of a partnership between the Averitt Center for the Arts and Georgia Southern's Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art, will feature unique goods made by local artists and GSU students, including ceramics, fine arts, and jewelry. The sale will take place at the Roxie Remley Center for Fine Arts at 31 East Vine Street in Statesboro on Thursday, April 25, from 2-8pm, Friday, April 26, from 10am-8pm, and Saturday, April 27, from 10am-2pm. Artists and GSU students are encouraged to submit their artwork for sale through the online registration form. The deadline for submitting artwork is April 24, 2024. The Averitt Center for the Arts has announced that 75% of the proceeds from the sale will go back to the artist, while the remaining 25% will go towards supporting the arts education programs and classes at GSU. Beginning in 2021, the Georgia Southern Office of Leadership and Community Engagement began to include guest speakers with a passion and reputation for service as part of National Volunteer Month.
