STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Staten Island FerryHawks, the Police Benevolent Association, and the NYPD are inviting borough residents to enjoy an exciting game of America’s favorite past time this Friday — for a good cause.
You can head on down to Staten Island University Hospital Community Park, St. George, for “NYPD Night” to get a special deal for tickets to the game.
“We appreciate and are grateful for the men and women who serve us as police officers everyday,” said a spokesman for the Staten Island FerryHawks. “This Friday night we have chosen a game to honor them with NYPD Night.”
For $20, attendees can get a ticket and a beer or a soft drink, and five dollars of the price of admission will be donated to the Police Benevolent Association’s Widows and Children’s Fund to help those whose spouses have made the ultimate sacrifice for New York City.
Law enforcement will be honored during a night full of fun family activities and the first pitch will be thrown out by Deputy Inspector Steve Spataro, the commanding officer of the 120th Precinct.
The FerryHawks will be battling the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
“This gives us an opportunity to not only support the Widows and Children’s Fund, but it’s also going to help bring the community together with the police,” said NYPD Deputy Chief Joseph Gulotta of Patrol Borough Staten Island. “That’s what it’s all about, an event like this in this beautiful ballpark honoring fallen members of the NYPD as well as bringing the community together with us.”
According to its website, the Widows and Children’s Fund provides aid to widows, widowers and eligible dependents of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The game will take place on Friday at 7 p.m., at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park, which is located at 75 Richmond Terrace. Tickets can be purchased online here.
