STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — At least seven shots were fired and a 22-year-old woman was injured when gunshots rang out in South Beach and Grasmere on Sunday afternoon, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
The brazen assault where the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the upper right leg began around 2:30 p.m. on the sidewalk on Norway Avenue near Kermit Avenue, according to police.
Police recovered seven .45-caliber shell casings on Norway Avenue and at the Walgreens at 2270 Clove Road at Hylan Boulevard, the source said.
At least one bullet hole was seen in a window at Walgreens.
The 22-year-old woman was in stable condition when she was transported by EMS to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, according to police.
The victim did not cooperate with police during the initial investigation, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
The search continues on Tuesday for two male suspects wearing all-gray clothing, including one who stands about 5′10″ tall, according to police.
In the video, four individuals can be seen walking down a section of Norway Avenue, when moments later, just out of frame, one of the individuals begins yelling as at least six gunshots can clearly be heard ringing out.
One of the individuals can then be seen running back up the street in the opposite direction.
Witnesses told the Advance/SILive.com that while the woman appeared to have sustained her injury closer to Norway Avenue, she was taken by ambulance from the vicinity of Clove and Hylan.
Residents of Norway Avenue said they heard gunshots and saw groups of “kids” run from the area.
“I was outside trimming my tree. ...I saw kids walk up the street,” an area resident said. “Then I saw kids running and then heard like six or seven gunshots.”
