NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Five children were rescued after getting lost in a storm drain on Staten Island Tuesday night, authorities said.
The kids, believed to be around 11 to 12 years old, called 911 around 6 p.m. after entering the drain that runs beneath Clove Lakes Park in West Brighton and becoming lost.
The dispatcher told the children to "call for help" and "scream" in order for first responders to find them, according to the 911 call released by the FDNY.
Ultimately, the FDNY and NYPD managed to locate the children near the Staten Island Zoo and get them out.
Police said the kids were uninjured but were taken to Richmond University Medical Center as a precaution.
One firefighter was injured during the rescue and was also taken to RUMC, WABC-TV reported.
Police told the outlet that the children wouldn't be charged.
