STATE ROAD — The Klondike Dam, a cherished landmark adjacent to Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery, has undergone a breathtaking transformation with the completion of a stunning mural by acclaimed artist Eva Crawford. Situated amidst the picturesque landscape of State Road, the mural is set to become a focal point of the area, celebrating the natural beauty and tranquility of the surrounding environment.

Eva Crawford, known for her captivating depictions of nature and landscapes, has masterfully captured the essence of the region in her latest creation. The mural, spanning the length of the 100-year-old dam, portrays a serene nature scene that seamlessly harmonizes with the “Forest Bathing Trail,” a popular hiking trail that runs adjacent to the dam. Through her artistic vision, Crawford invites viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty of the wilderness and connect with the natural world.

The project was a collaboration between Elkin Valley Trails Association, The Klondike Cabins, Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery, and several anonymous donors. They all saw the potential that this 100 year old dam had to be an enormous canvas to show off what nature has to offer, and they made it happen.

“We are thrilled to unveil Eva Crawford’s magnificent mural at the Klondike Dam,” said Jim Douthit with Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery. “Her extraordinary talent has brought to life the enchanting landscape that surrounds us, creating a visual masterpiece that will inspire and captivate visitors for years to come.”

To commemorate the completion of the mural, Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery will host a special dedication ceremony on April 7 from 12 to 5 p.m. with food trucks and live music. The ceremony will feature remarks from Eva Crawford at 3:30 p.m. as well as special recognitions. There will also be guided tours of the mural through the adjacent Forest Bathing Trail and viewing platform at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the artwork up close and learn about the inspiration behind its creation.

“We invite the community to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion,” added Derrill Rice with The Klondike Cabins. “The dedication ceremony promises to be a memorable event, offering guests a chance to experience the beauty of Eva Crawford’s artistry, the tranquility of the natural surroundings of the Forest Bathing Trail, and the determination of the Elkin Valley Trails Association that brought it all together.”

The dedication ceremony is open to the public, and admission is free of charge. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure parking and participate in the guided tours.
