SLH Tri-Shore Little League Opening Day postponed until future date
SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS –– The Spring Lake Heights Tri-Shore Little League Opening Day annual parade, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 20 has been postponed until a to-be-determined date due to inclement weather that hit the region this morning. Vicent Daino, President of the Tri-Shore Little League said that this coming Saturday is under consideration for rescheduling, but will be decided at a later time.
‘True tale of Robin Hood’ to be performed at high school
POINT PLEASANT — Point Pleasant Borough High School is set to be the stage for “Marian or The True Tale of Robin Hood” on April 24 and 25. In a different theater experience than other shows, attendees will be sitting on the stage in a black box to see this “gender-bending, patriarchal-smashing, hilarious new take on the classic tale.”
Brick Historical Society Giant Yard Sale postponed until tomorrow, Sunday, April 21
BRICK TOWNSHIP –– The Brick Township Historical Society’s Giant Yard Sale has been postponed until tomorrow, Sunday, April 21 due to this morning’s inclement weather. WALL TOWNSHIP — When Wall Township resident Erin Healy-Kuper looked to broaden her horizons in career opportunities after years of teaching physical education, her husband, Jeremy, recommended she look into dog care, which is how she ended up at The Seeing Eye [TSE] nonprofit in Morristown. “My husband…he kind of gave me the nudge and support to pursue a career at The Seeing Eye,” she told The Coast Star in an interview.
Beach council introduces $18.3 million municipal budget
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The Point Pleasant Beach borough council introduced its 2024 municipal budget, tentatively totaling $18,380,335 at the Tuesday, April 16 meeting. Homeowners in Point Pleasant Beach can expect to pay 47 cents for every $100 dollars of assessed property value. Based on an average property assessment of $575,262 (as of 2024), the local tax rate is estimated to increase by 1.72% in the 2024 fiscal year over 2023.
Earth Day returns to borough Saturday
POINT PLEASANT — The annual Earth Day celebration at Riverfront Park returns this weekend to Point Pleasant. On Saturday, April 20 from 12 to 4 p.m., the Point Pleasant Borough Environmental Commission will hold its annual Earth Day event overlooking the Manasquan River at Riverfront Park. This year’s theme is “The Power of Trees,” highlighting the new tree ordinance in review by the mayor and council.
Prosecutor: Narrumson Road skeletal remains of ‘advanced age’
WALL TOWNSHIP — The forensic examination of human remains unearthed during the excavation of a residential construction site in Wall Township last month has not yielded any evidence suggesting suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths, according to a statement from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO). The incident unfolded on Tuesday, March 12, when members of the MCPO and the Wall Township Police Department were called to the 1100 block of Narrumson Road, where initial groundwork for a new home being constructed at the site was underway.
Prosecutor’s Office investigating Warren Avenue crash
WALL TOWNSHIP – The cause of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle in Wall Township is currently under investigation, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) announced on Thursday. On Monday April 15, at approximately 11:22 a.m., the Wall Township Police Department responded to a vehicle-on-pedestrian crash at the intersection of Route 35 and Warren Avenue, the press release says.
Belmar municipal budget sees $1.75M increase
BELMAR — The borough’s mayor and council introduced the 2024 municipal budget during their April 9 regular council meeting, with an increase of nearly $1.75 million. This year’s municipal budget is $24,569,507.82, which is a $1,745,412 increase from last year’s total of $22,824,095. The tax levy, the amount to be raised by taxes, is set at $9,134,327.50, which is an increase of $356,950.

AVON-BY-THE-SEA — The 28th annual Avon Run/Walk is set for Saturday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, stepping off at Ocean and Norwood avenues. Registration is capped at 1,500 participants, so if interested, it is best to register sooner than later. There were 941 spots available as of press time Wednesday.
Legal advice sought for reacting to ethics violations in Point Beach
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The borough council approved a motion at its April 16 meeting to go forward with seeking legal advice on amending borough code regarding disciplinary actions for current elected officials involved in “ethical violations.” While she was not present at Tuesday’s council meeting, discussion of an incident involving Council President Rosa Crowley altercation with neighbor Jason Kaplan on Feb.
Training exercise to be conducted at Bay Head train station
BAY HEAD — The New Jersey Transit Police Department’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM), together with state, county and local partners, will conduct a training exercise on Saturday, April 20, at NJ Transit’s Bay Head Yard facility beginning at 8 a.m. The drill, which will gauge responses to a simulated transportation incident, will take approximately three hours to complete.
New Fourth Avenue redevelopment plan unveiled
WALL TOWNSHIP — A plan to redevelop several lots on East Fourth Avenue, north of Harry Rash Field off Route 71, was recently introduced by the Wall Township committee. Currently, about 17 small cottages line both sides of East Fourth Avenue. The plan says that currently, five residential units in the targeted area are occupied.
Investigation leads to arrest of six Ocean County residents, seizure of 145 bricks of heroin/fentanyl
TOMS RIVER — A four-month long investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has led to the arrest of six individuals, including a Brick resident, and the seizure of 145 bricks of heroin/fentanyl, cocaine, and a handgun. Kyree Kennedy, 28, of Lakewood; Kammani Wilson, 27, of Manchester; Shakira Hill, 36, of Brick Township; Tymir Bergstrom, 23, of Lakewood; Tyquan Jones, 31, of Whiting, and Miguel Gonzales, 54, of Lakewood, were arrested March 28 as authorities executed search warrants at multiple homes, according to a prepared statement from Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D.
Point Pleasant PD responds to accident on Route 88
POINT PLEASANT — A portion of Route 88, near The Idle Hour, was closed Sunday night as a single-vehicle crash caused damage to a nearby pole. On the night of April 14th, around 9:25 p.m., the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls regarding a single-car accident on Route 88 near Barton Avenue.
