Letter To The Editor – May 16, 2024
As the new Postmaster of Henderson, it is a great honor to serve this community. In my years with the United States Postal Service, I have seen firsthand the role the Postal Service plays connecting neighbors and our community to the nation. Our Post Offices also serve as a lifeline for our small businesses to reach customers no matter the location.
FHU marks a major milestone with historic Topping Out ceremony
In a ceremonial act rich with history and community spirit, Freed-Hardeman University marked a significant construction milestone this week. The final steel beam – signed by students, faculty, staff, local dignitaries and neighbors – was hoisted into place atop the new Jones Family Dining Hall, soon to house a Chick-fil-A restaurant. This beam represents not just the completion of a structure but the strengthening of community bonds and the university’s enduring commitment to growth and service. FHU President David R. Shannon opened the ceremony by thanking God, as the builder of all things, for providing the blessing to celebrate. The dining hall is expected to be completed by November 2024 and will open in January 2025.

HPD increases seat belt enforcement during national “Click It or Ticket” mobilization
As summer kicks off and families hit the road for vacation, Henderson Police Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) to remind motorists to Click It or Ticket. From May 20 through June 2, participating agencies across the state will increase seat belt enforcement as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nationwide mobilization.
