Florida State’s head coach, Mike Norvell, has found himself in deep water just three weeks into the season.

After a 0-2 start, the team that started the season 10th in the country has fallen out of the top 25. From high hopes to disappointment looming across Tallahassee, all fingers point to the coach.

Rumblings about Norvell's job security started after the Seminoles' opening week game versus Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland. In the matchup, Florida State were 10.5-point favorites but lost outright to the Yellowjackets 24-21 on a last-second field goal.

Norvell’s defense struggled to stop Georgia Tech’s ground game, which ran for 190 yards and three touchdowns. On the offensive side, FSU was held to 291 total yards despite possessing the ball for just over half the game.

Norvell was disappointed and put the loss on himself.

"It's sickening that we came up short and I take total responsibility and ownership for that. It's my job to have the team prepared to go and play to the best of our ability.”

After the tough loss to Georgia Tech, the Seminoles returned home to host Boston College in another ACC showdown. Looking for a bounce-back win, Florida State came into the contest as 16.5-point favorites, but once again lost outright 28-13.

Florida State struggled to stop the run in back-to-back weeks as the Eagles ran for 263 yards Their defense was unable to make the big plays in the big moments. Anytime they had a chance to get off the field Boston College converted third downs to continue the drive which led to more points on the scoreboard.

Seminoles quarterback, DJ Uiagalelei, played a role in the team’s poor offensive performance. The former 5-star recruit threw for 272 yards, one touchdown, and one interception on 21-42 throwing. The ground game was also stagnant as FSU rushed for 21 yards.

Even after starting the season 0-2, Norvell still has hope for his squad.

"You've got a football team that nobody envisioned ever being where we are and having disappointment, having failure, but I do believe in what this team can do.”

Florida State’s 0-2 start is one of the season's biggest surprises. They came into the year as the co-favorite with Clemson to win the ACC at +280, but their odds have now skyrocketed to +4000. They also had the ninth-best opening odds to win the National Championship at +1800.

Despite the odds, Norvell and the Seminoles got a much-needed bye in Week 3. They will look to put the first two weeks of the season behind them and right the ship, when they take on the 2-0 Memphis Tigers in Week 4.
