Where does St. Johns County rank among Florida's richest counties?

And in terms of median income alone, the Northeast Florida County leads the state

With its miles of oceanfront homes, nationally recognized country clubs and a growing number of mega-developments, it’s easy to see why St. Johns County is among the wealthiest counties in the state. 

A new study from financial tech company SmartAsset ranks St. Johns at No. 3 among Florida’s 67 counties, just behind No. 2 Collier County, home to Naples, and Monroe County, home to Key West. 

The company ranked counties based on data on investment income, property value and per capita income. 

Based on median income alone, St. Johns ($88,794) led the state, followed by Nassau County ($77,504), Santa Rosa County ($77,260), Collier County ($75,543) and Clay County ($74,059).

Not only is St. Johns home to historic St. Augustine, founded in 1565, it’s also one of the fastest-growing counties in Florida and the United States in recent years, according to U.S. Census data, drawing residents to new communities like Nocatee, RiverTown, Durbin Crossing, Beachwalk Club, SilverLeaf and more. Its population in 2020 was 273,425, up 40% since 2010, and is expected to surpass 366,000 by 2030, according to U.S. Census statistics. 

At $515,056, the median home value in St. Johns ranked the county fourth in the state, behind Monroe ($957,819), Walton ($681,162) and Collier ($594,299).

The county is known for its good schools, low crime and unemployment rates, healthcare facilities, historic sites, beaches and more.
