BERLIN TWP (WWJ) -- Law enforcement is looking into a crash in St. Clair County where a young man hit a tree after veering off the roadway.

Just after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, St. Clair County Central Dispatch started getting calls about a single-car collision on Hough Rd, west of Holmes in Berlin Township -- about five miles east of Almont.

According to the 911 caller, a 2006 Dodge RAM went off the road and struck a tree.

When first responders arrived, they found a 22-year-old Almont man trapped in the cab of the truck.

Berlin Twp Fire managed to extract the man, and he was taken to McLaren Lapeer Hospital in critical condition.

At this time, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department believes speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, which is still under investigation.
