AUTISM. YOU JUST DON’T HEAR OF IT. SOME ARE. MCCUNE ALREADY HAD HER HANDS FULL WHEN SHE ADDED A THIRD CHILD TO HER SAINT CHARLES PARISH FAMILY, WHERE DARLA BIG BU. BUT LITTLE DID SHE KNOW HER YOUNGEST, ADLER, WOULD SUFFER FROM A PEDIATRIC FEEDING DISORDER FOR A LONG TIME. YOU KNOW, I WOULD GO TO MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AND THEY WOULD TELL ME SHE’S GOING TO EAT WHEN SHE’S HUNGRY. THAT WAS NEVER THE CASE. SO FOR MONTHS OF HER LIFE, I FED HER BY DREAM FEEDING, WHICH SHE’D ONLY TAKE A BOTTLE IN HER SLEEP. IT WAS A PSYCHOLOGICAL THING. BEHAVIORAL. IT WAS DURING ONE OF THOSE LATE NIGHT FEEDING SESSIONS THAT SUMMER SAYS SHE FOUND HER PURPOSE. A FORMER ART TEACHER, SHE DESIGNED A SET OF PJS BASED ON A SONG THAT PUT HER DAUGHTER TO SLEEP SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THESE PICTURES SHOW HER PROGRESS IN HER BUSINESS. NOLA B RAISES AWARENESS ABOUT OTHER MEDICAL CONDITIONS AFFECTING CHILDREN ACROSS LOUISIANA AND BEYOND. I HOPE HER WITH HER PJS AND PACKAGE IT RIGHT. ADLER’S TAKING A NAP. SOME ARE SELF MADE SUPPORT SYSTEM, WHICH YES, INCLUDES HER KIDS, ENCOURAGED HER TO ENTER A NATIONAL COMPETITION, AWARDING ONE LUCKY WOMAN THE TITLE OF SUPERMOM OF AMERICA. YOU KNOW, IF WE DON’T TRY, WE WON’T WIN. I’M NOW A FINALIST, ONE OF 12 WOMEN OUT OF OVER 60,000 WOMEN. IF SHE WINS, SUMMER PLANS TO POUR THE $20,000 GRAND PRIZE BACK INTO HER BUSINESS, HELPING HER RELEASE MORE PJS, HIGHLIGHTING PEDIATRIC CONDITIONS. ALL OF THAT’S GOING INTO THE NEXT LINE. AND SO I JUST LAUNCHED IN JANUARY. I DO HAVE TO BE PATIENT, AND I UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT I FEEL LIKE I OWE IT TO THESE KIDS TO GET THEM OUT THERE AS SOON AS I CAN. A St. Charles Parish woman is a finalist to be named "Super Mom" of America. The national competition attracted tens of thousands of nominations, but Summer McCune, of Norco, is now ranked in the top 10. A winner will be decided this Thursday based on votes. People wishing to participate can vote for free or through a donation to charity.McCune is funneling all donations made in her honor to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. She told WDSU she has raised more than $10,000 so far.To vote for McCune, click here.Any vote cast by 9 p.m. Tuesday counts twice."If we don't try, we won't win," McCune said. "We're a finalist now, one out of (more than) 60,000 women."McCune said if she wins, she will pour the $20,000 grand prize into her business Nolabee, which sells pajamas designed by the mom of three. McCune's designs were first inspired by her youngest daughter, Adler, who has a pediatric feeding disorder. The sleepwear is meant to raise awareness about Adler's condition and those of others who McCune has met through a growing support system on social media."I just launched in January, so I do have to be patient, and I understand that," McCune said. But I feel like I owe it to these kids to get (more pajamas) out there as soon as I can."Some of Nolabee's designs are sold in the gift shop at Children's Hospital in New Orleans, where Adler is a patient.
