Workin' Bridges, a non-profit organization whose mission is to restore historic bridges, has announced the sale of the historic Hayden Railroad Bridge in Springfield.
The organization says they are selling Hayden Bridge due to lack of community interest in restoring it.
The Hayden Railroad Bridge was first built back in 1882, manufactured in Pennsylvania by the predecessors of the Phoenix Bridge Company, French Creek Nail Works. Workin' Bridges says that the bridge served from 1882-1886 on the Transcontinental Railroad, over the Bear River in Corrine, Utah.
The bridge was eventually removed due to it being too light for traffic. It was later shipped by rail over to the McKenzie, where it was constructed in about 16 days, according to Mohawk Valley historians.
According to the non-profit, some of the land surrounding the bridge will be included in the sale. An 'open house' will be held at Hayden Railroad Bridge on April 1, from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
