Fassnight Pool is closing for emergency repairs due to a part of the pool shell coming loose.

The closure, set to start at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, is expected to last several days, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board announced in a news release.

The release said parks staff discovered the damage, in the pool's shallow end, Friday afternoon. To make repairs, that end of the pool must be drained so part of the shell can be removed and replaced. Repairs are expected to begin over the weekend.

The deep end of the pool won't need to be drained. Repairs and refilling the pool are expected to take about a week, the release said, depending on weather.

Fassnight Pool's normal hours are Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 1-6:30 p.m. Due to the closure, Grant Beach Pool will be open Sunday, June 16, and Monday, June 17, in addition to its normal weekly schedule of Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Depending on the timing of repairs, additional pool schedule changes may be announced, the park board release said.

“Special thanks to our colleagues at (City of Springfield) Environmental Services, who are providing equipment that will help us quickly drain the pool, allowing our staff to starting making repairs over the weekend,” said Anne-Mary McGrath, Superintendent of Recreation, in the release.

Fassnight is the Park Board’s largest and busiest outdoor pool, as well as the oldest public pool in Springfield, built in 1927.

Detailed information about indoor and outdoor pools, including the weekly schedule, is at ParkBoard.org/Aquatics.
