Arrest in last week’s homicide

An arrest is reported in a homicide on Wednesday of last week near Clear Lake Avenue.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office says members of a U.S. Marshal’s fugitive task force picked up Jerry Stegall (pictured), 27, Springfield, Wednesday afternoon in Alton. The charges are first degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Aaron Cutler, 38, was shot the evening of May 31 in the 300 block of South Paul Street in Springfield, reportedly after a fight.

The investigation continues.
