A Springfield nurse returns to the Miss Illinois competition this week – and you have a chance to help her make it to the final round.
Darlene Steinkamp is the 2023 Miss Springfield and will compete at the Miss Illinois event in Marion for the second straight year. Preliminary events, including talent and evening gowns, will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Steinkamp – whose platform centers on removing the stigma about mental health issues – could also make it into Saturday’s finals by winning the Miss Illinois People’s Choice award, with online voting underway now at missillinois.org.
