Springfield’s alderpeople will get their chance this week to formally sign the new civility pledge recently adopted by the City Council.

Aldermen and women unanimously approved an ordinance last month calling for elected officials to pledge to treat everyone with respect and to listen to differing ideas.

Signing the pledge is voluntary, but City Clerk Frank Lesko says he will present the form to all of the alderpeople for their individual signatures at this week’s meeting.

Lesko and Mayor Misty Buscher have already signed the pledge, which was developed by the Illinois Municipal League.
