The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, has released the name of the man who was shot in the 300 block of South Paul Street in Springfield.
Allmon says Aaron Cutler, 38, was pronounced deceased by emergency room staff at 6:44 p.m. shortly after his arrival.
An autopsy was done on Thursday and preliminary findings suggest Cutler died from multiple gunshot wounds
The death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Sangamon County Sheriff.
According to Sheriff Jack Campbell, deputies responded to the 300 block of South Paul Street for reports of a fight around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night.
On scene, officers found a Cutler, with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Cutler was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A second victim was also found with a gunshot wound to his back; police say he was conscious and alert at the time.
Right now, the Sheriff's Office is canvassing the area for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers if you would like to remain anonymous.
